Dear Senator S,
Thank you for your courage in asking for an FBI investigation of the Kavanaugh/Ford allegations. I know it is not easy going againt party lines but I feel you have the interest of the country first.
What I witnessed last week was the destruction of the good names and reputation of who I feel, are 2 very patriotic upstanding American citizens. I feel distressed that these hearings were handled the way they were. As I understand it, Dr. Ford requested confidentality with her disclosure. I am not sure why or who violated her request but I know I would like the FBI to investigate the leak. If the leak came from Sen. Feinstein then it might be accurate to think that it was done for purely political reasons with total disregard for the request of Dr. Ford. If Dr.Ford released it then it would be reasonble to assume alteria motives on her part.
My heart goes out to Dr. Ford as I know exactly how she feels as I was assaulted by 3 men over 40 years ago. This was a very trumatic event in my life of which many people fail to realize the impact. I also had another trumatic event in my life 21 years ago whan an unliscensed and uninsured driver rear ended my car pinning my 16 year old son and myself between these vehicles. I lost my leg and nearly died of loss of blood. The reason I share these stories with you is that both these stories left a very indellible memory in my mind. I do not claim to have an exceptional memory as often I can’t remember what I did yesterday but I remember everything that led up to, during and after. On the morning of the accident, I remember it was beautiful fall morning, where my husband and I rode bikes to, what I was wearing and the moments right before the accident. I remember the impact of the accident and lying lifeless on the road until I blacked out. When I was assaulted, I still remember the faces of my attackers, the events leading up to it and the horror I felt afterwards. Many women who have shared their stories with me all have a common theme. Trumatic events leave a trumatic memory.
Dr. Ford’s testimony was very heart felt. Her testimony would have totally won me over except for the fact she could not remember how she got to the party, how she got home and whose party it was. All the women assaulted by Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein remember, like myself, the event in its entirety. I am a little older than Dr. Ford, but like Dr. Ford I attended a fair share of high school parties. And as she described, there was usually under aged drinking as well as other shenanigans taking place. To this day, I could tell you whose houses these parties were at, who were some of the people there and how I got there and back home. I am not trying to say that something didn’t happen to Dr. Ford because I think something did but her lapse in memory cast a cloud over all of her testimony. As for judge Kavanaugh, if he committed a criminal act then he needs to be made responsible for his action. So far it is “He said”- " She said." If Brett Kavanaugh did indeed commit these acts and then we look at his life today, I would have to say something happened in his life to create an incredible dynamic change. Kavanaugh has not demonstrated the behaviors of serial sex offenders such as Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein. To the contrary, we have a lot more women attesting to his character than those trying to discredit it.
As an American citizen, I have become very distressed by groups of people intimidating our elected leaders in restuarants and other public places. This is not the kind of America I want for my children and the upcoming generations. Like you, I am not crazy about President Trump. but I believe if that you are certain about your political or religious beliefs that you can always entertain opposing beliefs. I am willing to share my story with you and the judicary committee and Dr. Ford I would like my identity kept confidential.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Raleigh
