A friend by the name of George wrote to his Senator in Oregon urging the senator to vote for Kavanaugh. This is the response to George from the senator. To me, this senator is so on the wrong side of this argument. One of his comments stated that if the standing abortion ruling gets turned over, it will criminalize abortion. As a Christian, I believe R.v.W. is wrong and that killing unborn babies is criminal. Here is the letter below:
Oregon’s
Senator
Jeff
Merkley
Dear George,
Thank you for contacting me to express your support for the nomination of Mr. Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. I appreciate hearing your position and the opportunity to share mine.
As you know, the U.S. Constitution charges the Senate with advising on and consenting to presidential nominees to the federal bench. I consider this responsibility to be one of my most important duties as a U.S. Senator. While reviewing each nomination, I consider the nominee’s record, experience, and testimony.
I have reviewed the record of Mr. Brett Kavanaugh, and oppose his nomination. I am deeply concerned about the Supreme Court’s consistent bias against consumers, workers, and ordinary citizens and in support of powerful special interests. Judge Kavanaugh’s record, and the fact that he was chosen off of a short list prepared by ideological organizations reflecting the business agendas of their wealthy funders, strongly suggests that he would further exacerbate this tilt.
Moreover, if Judge Kavanaugh were confirmed to the Supreme Court, abortion and forms of contraception could be criminalized. Americans with pre-existing conditions could lose life-saving health care. Marriage equality could be overturned. Racial inequality and blatant voter suppression could be further embraced by the highest court in the land. I believe these are real and imminent threats to our nation, each of which would land most heavily on vulnerable people in our society.
Judge Kavanaugh also has extreme views on virtually unfettered presidential power. He has argued that sitting Presidents should be immune from prosecution and not even required to answer subpoenas, and that the President should have the sole power to appoint and fire special prosecutors at will. This view of presidential power without accountability has no place in our system of checks and balances, regardless of who sits in the Oval Office.
For all these reasons, I will oppose Brett Kavanaugh. While we may not agree on this nominee, I hope you know that I am working to fulfill my constitutional duty and fight for a We the People vision of America.
All my best,
Jeffrey A. Merkley
United States Senator -

I have some doubt about Kavanaugh’s close relationship with the Bushes. However, I think that Pres. Trump had chosen him to be more easy to be confirmed. Ginsberg is very problematic for me. Kavanaugh is not of Ginsberg’s anti-Constitution stance. That, at least, I’m sure of. -
